It was the turn of Miss Gloria Ajala, a 14-year-old SSS 3 student of Lafiaji Senior High School, Lagos Island, to join the league of One-Day Governors in Lagos State, as she emerged the winner of the 2018 Spelling Bee competition on Tuesday, 30 October 2018.
Miss Ajala, who worships at the Deeper Life Bible Church, Freeman District, Lagos Island Group of Districts, is a daughter to Mr and Mrs Ajala, a barber and a petty trader by profession, respectively.
The brainy Ajala, defeated Ikhariale Grace of Tin Can Island Senior High School, Tolu and Akinbodewa Oluwatosin of Iworo Ajido Senior Secondary School, Olorunda who took the second and third positions respectively, to clinch the award.
Information from the Lagos State government, revealed that Ajala, who will be the 18th One-Day Governor in the state, would perform the pseudo-role of the governor of the state at a yet- to- be announced date before the end of this year alongside her cabinet members.
Aside the privilege of occupying the seat of the state governor for a day, Gloria has also won a scholarship award to study in the University of her Choice and to go for training in Finland.
Speaking with newsmen after her victory, Gloria appreciated God for the success, saying it was God’s way to reward her for her for hard work and commitment. “I read several books to prepare myself for the competition.”
Being the 18th One-Day Governor to emerge since the commencement of the competition, which was initiated by Senator Oluremi Tinubu, when her husband was the governor of the state, Gloria was filled with inexplicable joy.
The list of the One- Day Governors of Lagos since inception of the competition include: Master Ebuka Anisiobi 2001, Miss Otiti Ovuewhorie 2002, Master Emmanuel Aiyenitaju 2003, Miss Tolulope Esan 2004, Master Ajao Oyetade 2005, Master Abundance Ikechukwu 2006, Miss Mariam Busari 2007, Master Daniel Osunbor 2008, Miss Olaide Adesopo 2009, Miss Oluwatosin Adeosun 2010, Master Akpanakpan Iniodu Jones 2011, Miss Lilian Ogbuefi 2012, Master BoadleyJuwonAfolarin 2013, Master Olabanji Edun 2014, Master Idowu Sonoiki 2015, Master Olaseinde Olufemi 2016, Zoffun Bukola 2017, and the latest winner and One Day Governor of Lagos State is Miss Gloria Ajala.
